San Diego, California, Position Summary
The Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance assists with leading the day-to-day operations of the Athletics Compliance Office, including rules education, interpretations, monitoring, enforcement, waivers, and eligibility. This position serves as a key compliance resource for coaches, student-athletes, staff, and university constituents while supervising and developing compliance staff and interns.
Key Responsibilities:
General Duties
Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Athletics Compliance Office and internship program, including leading staff meetings, conducting evaluations, and supporting staff development.
Participate in strategic planning; develop and update compliance policies, procedures, and the Compliance Policies and Procedures Manual; and represent the Compliance Office at campus, athletic, and community events.
Compliance Education
Lead and coordinate rules education for coaches, staff, student-athletes, administrators, and other university constituents, including monitoring regulatory changes and providing timely training.
Develop and present educational materials for meetings, onboarding, preseason programs, websites, social media, student-athletes, representatives of athletics interests, and community partners.
Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement
Serve as the primary compliance liaison for Football, Men’s Basketball, and Women’s Basketball while providing rules interpretations and overseeing compliance monitoring systems, including complimentary admissions and Teamworks.
Develop and maintain audit, monitoring, allegation, and self-reporting systems; identify and research potential violations; and assist with preparing self-reports.
Waivers and Eligibility
Oversee the preparation and submission of NCAA and conference waivers and coordinate eligibility clearances and certifications for transfer and incoming student-athletes.
Review NCAA, conference, CSU, and SDSU forms for eligibility concerns and maintain current waiver and eligibility databases.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree.
Four years of full-time experience working in NCAA compliance (at an NCAA member institution, conference office, or the NCAA national office).
Experience with providing NCAA rules interpretations and presenting education sessions.
Key Qualifications
Analytical experience as it relates to legislative rules interpretation.
Experience with written correspondence, letters, and memos.
Experience with NCAA LSDBi and RSRO systems.
Experience with ACS recruiting software system.
Experience with filming and editing rules education videos.
Experience using various methods of social media as a compliance tool.
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s or juris doctorate degree.
Three or more years of experience working in NCAA Division 1 compliance (at an NCAA member institution).
Experience working at an NCAA Division I-FBS institution.
