Job Description

Davis, California, Position Reports to: Director of Track & Field and Cross Country UC Davis, an NCAA Division I institution and member of the Mountain West Conference, is seeking applications for a Volunteer Assistant Track & Field Coach to oversee the training, development, and management of the men’s and women’s pole vault group. The coach must maintain the highest ethical standards, comply with NCAA, Mountain West Conference, UC Davis, and Intercollegiate Athletics policies and procedures, and work cooperatively with coaches, staff, and campus partners. Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. • Collegiate track and field coaching experience. • Demonstrated experience coaching and developing athletes in the pole vault. • Strong knowledge of pole vault technique, teaching progressions, training methodology, competition strategy, and event-specific safety practices. • Ability to effectively teach and communicate technical concepts to student-athletes with varying levels of experience and ability. • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with student-athletes, coaches, staff, prospective student-athletes, families, high school and club coaches, and other members of the track and field community. • Commitment to student-athlete academic success, personal development, health, welfare, and competitive excellence. • Ability to work collaboratively as part of the UC Davis Track & Field and Cross Country coaching staff. • Ability to work outdoors in varying environmental conditions and assist with the setup, movement, and maintenance of pole vault equipment. Preferred Qualifications • NCAA track & field coaching experience. • Master’s degree. • Demonstrated success developing collegiate pole vaulters. • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations governing track & field. • USATF, USTFCCCA, or other recognized track & field coaching education or certification. • Experience utilizing video analysis and other technology to evaluate and develop pole vault performance. Additional Desirable Experience • Coaching experience in the high jump and/or combined events, providing additional versatility and the ability to support other technical event areas within the program as needed. • Experience coaching athletes across multiple jumping events or working with multi-event athletes.
