Charlotte, North Carolina, About the ACC and ACC Men’s Basketball The ACC, in its 74th year and 18 members strong, stands as one of the most competitive and revered intercollegiate conferences in the nation. ACC members including Boston College, Cal, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame, Pitt, SMU, Stanford, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest are dedicated to upholding the league's founding values of academic excellence, athletic competition at the highest level, and integrity. The ACC supports 28 NCAA sports, with 15 for women and 13 for men, and its member institutions span 12 states. In August 2019, the ACC and ESPN partnered to launch ACC Network (ACCN), a 24/7 national network exclusively devoted to ACC sports and original programming. In men’s basketball, the ACC is the winningest conference in NCAA Tournament history. Based on conference membership in each season, the ACC leads all leagues with 498 all-time tournament victories and a 65.1% winning percentage. ACC programs have won 15 NCAA championships, including three since 2015, while the league’s current members have combined for 19 national titles. Since the tournament expanded in 1985, nearly half of all ACC teams earning a bid have advanced to the Sweet 16. The conference’s success remains unmatched in the modern era, as the ACC has led all leagues since 2015 with 122 NCAA Tournament victories and 10 Final Four appearances. Six different ACC programs have reached the Final Four during that span, tied for the most of any conference. The ACC’s excellence also extends to the professional level. Led by four first-round selections, 12 ACC players were chosen in the 2026 NBA Draft - the conference’s highest total since 2019 and the 19th time at least 10 ACC players were selected. Since 2000, the ACC has produced a nation-leading 214 draft picks, including at least one first-round selection in 38 consecutive years and a lottery pick in each of the past 18 drafts. During the 2025-26 season, 83 alumni from current ACC schools appeared in an NBA game, representing 16 of the conference’s 18 programs. In total, 782 players from current ACC institutions have competed in the NBA, ABA or NBL, with Georgia Tech alumnus Jose Alvarado most recently helping the New York Knicks capture the 2026 NBA championship. About the Position The Senior Vice President – Men’s Basketball provides strategic and operational leadership for ACC Men’s Basketball. The position is responsible for advancing the sport’s competitive success, national profile, championship experience, and commercial value while ensuring excellent scheduling, officiating, game management, and stakeholder alignment. Reporting to the Commissioner, with dotted-line reporting to the Chief Operating league’s 18 men’s basketball coaches, athletic directors, member institutions, ACC staff, game officials, venue partners, ESPN and ACCN, NCAA, national basketball organizations, and other key stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a strategic, highly credible, and collaborative leader with deep men’s basketball knowledge; sound judgment; strong communication skills; and the ability to translate strategy into action in a fast-paced, complex environment. Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership, Stakeholder Engagement & National Affairs: • Lead the ACC’s strategic efforts to enhance the competitiveness, national profile, visibility, and long-term value of men’s basketball. • Serve as the primary ACC Men’s Basketball liaison to the head coaches, athletic directors, and other key basketball stakeholders. • Facilitate regular communication and alignment among coaches, athletic directors, member institutions, the Conference office, media partners, and national basketball stakeholders. • Establish annual men’s basketball priorities, manage the sport’s operating budget, and provide the Commissioner, athletic directors, and coaches with timely analysis, recommendations, and updates. • Advise coaches and ADs on NCAA initiatives, legislation, playing rules, postseason selection, international competition, and other national basketball matters. • Represent the ACC at national basketball meetings and events and serve as liaison to organizations including the NCAA, NBA, NABC, USA Basketball, and other designated entities. • Serve on NCAA and related men’s basketball committees, as nominated and selected, and advocate for the ACC’s interests on key issues affecting the sport. • Lead the preparation, agenda development, and follow-up for AD and coaches’ meetings. • Partner with Executive Staff and senior leadership, particularly those with sport oversight, to align processes, member engagement, and sportsmanship-policy implementation and enforcement. Competition, Staff, Scheduling & Officiating: • Oversee all aspects of ACC Men’s Basketball competition, including the regular season, ACC Tournament, postseason, game management policies, sportsmanship standards, and related operating procedures. • Collaborate with the Vice President-Media Partnerships, media partners, and member institutions to strategically develop the ACC Men’s Basketball schedule (including non-conference coordination), taking into account contractual obligations, competitive balance, exposure, on-campus dynamics, and other applicable initiatives (multi-team/neutral site events, ACC-SEC Challenge, etc.). • Oversee on-campus regular-season game management and sportsmanship policies and procedures for ACC basketball contests. • Supervise staff supporting ACC Men’s Basketball, including the Director- Men’s Basketball, Supervisor of Officials, and Manager Men’s & Women’s Basketball, and establish clear expectations, priorities, and accountability. • Maintain ultimate responsibility for the men’s basketball officiating program, including alliance leadership and management, roster selection, training, evaluation, assignments, and postseason nominations. • Partner with the Chief Governance Officer and Chief Legal Officer, as appropriate, to support compliance and manage Conference risk across all areas of men’s basketball operations. Brand, Media & Commercial Growth: • Partner with ESPN, ACC Network, and the Chief Marketing & Brand Officer, Chief Communications Officer, Chief Revenue Officer, and Vice President-Media Partnerships to strengthen the ACC Men’s Basketball brand, expand visibility, and develop compelling local, regional, and national storytelling. • Collaborate with the Vice President- Media Partnerships on ESPN and ACCN Men’s Basketball production, and on-air talent evaluation. • Collaborate with ESPN, ACC Network, and the Vice President - Media Partnerships to develop forward-looking strategies that position ACC Men’s Basketball as a leader in the use of technology and innovation, including opportunities to enhance access, transparency, presentation, and fan engagement. • Develop and execute initiatives that enhance fan engagement, media awareness, commercial opportunities, and revenue associated with ACC Men’s Basketball. • Partner with the Chief Communications Officer on the strategic development and execution of ACC Basketball Tipoff. • Partner with the Chief Revenue Officer to integrate fan and commercial considerations into men’s basketball strategy and major event decisions, including venue selection, ticketing, premium and hospitality experiences, corporate partner activation and fulfillment, and other revenue opportunities. Championship facility agreements, local partners, and operational planning, while partnering across the organization to advance attendance, fan experience, and overall financial performance. • Serve as Tournament Manager for ACC-hosted NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship rounds, as assigned. • Promote ACC teams and student-athletes for NCAA Championship, NIT, and other postseason opportunities; provide timely analysis and support to ACC representatives involved in selection and seeding discussions. • Travel to member institutions and basketball events, including preseason and in-season team visits, to support the sport and maintain strong relationships across the Conference. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. At least 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in collegiate athletics, basketball, conference administration, or a closely related field. Demonstrated experience overseeing men’s basketball operations, games, scheduling, championships, and/or tournaments. Deep understanding of the key competitive, governance, media, commercial, officiating, and postseason issues affecting Division I men’s basketball. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with head coaches, athletic directors, campus administrators, media partners, and other high-level stakeholders. Experience with NCAA governance, national basketball organizations, postseason selection processes, or related national-level responsibilities preferred. Demonstrated experience partnering across revenue, media, marketing, ticketing, and event operations to improve the audience and business performance of a sport or event preferred. Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and retain high-performing staff. Ability and willingness to travel regularly, including for preseason and in-season team visits, championships, and national meetings. Must pass applicable pre-employment screenings. Work Environment: This position primarily operates in an office setting but also requires work at indoor and outdoor venues, including arenas, stadiums, and championship sites.
